What is the Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana?

Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana, commonly called SSY, is a government-backed small savings scheme designed for the benefit of a girl child. A guardian can open the account in the name of an eligible girl and make deposits during the permitted contribution period. The account can then continue to earn interest until its maturity period.

The scheme is often used as a long-term savings option for future education, marriage, or other financial goals for a daughter. Because the contribution period and maturity period are different, it can be useful to separate the amount you deposit from the number of years the money remains invested.

This calculator helps you make that distinction. You can enter an annual contribution, an interest rate, the number of contribution years, and the total investment period. The result estimates how the balance could grow over time.

How the SSY calculator works

The calculator uses an annual compounding model to provide a simple estimate. It adds the selected annual contribution during the contribution period and applies the selected annual interest rate to the growing balance. Once contributions stop, the existing balance continues to grow through the remaining maturity period.

1. Deposits

Your annual contribution is added for the number of years selected.

2. Interest

The calculator applies the selected annual interest rate to the estimated balance.

3. Maturity

After contributions end, the balance is projected forward to the selected maturity period.

Important: This is an estimate, not an official SSY account statement. Actual interest is calculated under the applicable Sukanya Samriddhi Account rules, including the timing of deposits and the rate notified for the relevant period. Interest rates can change, so use the calculator rate field to model a different rate.

Example of an SSY calculation

Suppose you plan to deposit ₹1,00,000 each year and use an 8.2% annual interest rate for your estimate. If contributions are made for 15 years and the account is projected over 21 years, the calculator separates the total amount you deposited from the estimated interest generated by the growing balance.

The example is intended to explain the calculation rather than predict the exact amount that will appear in an actual account. Deposit dates, official interest rates, and scheme rules can affect the actual result.

Why use an SSY maturity calculator?

Plan yearly savings

Compare different yearly contribution amounts and see how they change the projected maturity value.

Separate deposits from interest

The result shows how much you contribute and how much of the projected balance comes from estimated interest.

Compare interest rates

Change the rate field to see how a different assumed rate affects long-term growth.

Understand long-term growth

The year-by-year table makes it easier to see how contributions and estimated interest build the projected balance over time.
